CROSS COUNTRY AT ST ANSELM'S

Cross Country 2016

Yarlet travelled to St Anselm’s School in Bakewell for a cross-country meeting with Under 9 and Under 11 boys' and girls' teams and a boys' Under 13 team, all with six pupils per team.

The course was a challenging one, with very difficult conditions under foot and in cold, windy and wet weather, but all our teams were up for the test ahead. In deteriorating weather conditions the races went ahead and when all of the results were announced, Yarlet had clearly performed very well indeed.

The Under 9 girls and boys both came 5th in their respective team races overall, with Ella Nash finishing a superb 8th in the girls' race and William Connell also finishing an excellent 8th in the boys' race.

In the Under 11 race for boys, Yarlet came out in 5th position overall, with Ben Eden the best of our finishers in a very good 11th place. The Under 11 girls ran superbly as a team and, in a very competitive race, came out in 3rd position overall for which they all deservedly received a medal for their combined efforts. Evi Rogers was the highest placed finisher with a great individual 9th place.

The Under 13 boys also ran superbly as a team and everyone put in a great effort on an extended, strength-sapping course. Despite Oliver Butters-Peers and Max Raine putting in top ten finishes in 5th and 8th place respectively, Yarlet just missed out on the medals overall with a 4th place team finish. However, the combined team results overall for girls and boys of all ages were announced and Yarlet had finished in 3rd position as a school which was a superb result.

All of the races had over 60 competitors with some having 80 taking part, so it was a very competitive race meeting in which all of Yarlet’s 30 strong team played their part, showing great attitude, determination and perseverance.

Very well done indeed everyone!
