U11 A & B TEAMS V TERRA NOVA & PACKWOOD

Rugby U11 A B V Terra Nova 3 Feb 002

The Yarlet U11 A team played against two schools at Terra Nova last Wednesday.

Their first match was against Terra Nova, which was very evenly matched throughout the two halves, with both teams gaining and losing ground. Terra Nova broke through to score a try towards the end of the game, coming out with a 1-0 win. Both offence and defence were strong, which allowed the boys to push them back for the majority of the game.

The second match was against Packwood, which the boys also narrowly missed out on a win to, with a respectable score of 4-3 to Packwood at full-time.

Joseph Shaw, captain, gave great support to his team, and was aided superbly by players such as Jon Cunliffe, Ben Eden, Alfie Farrington and Henry Pickering. Supporting strongly were Charlie Capewell, Noah Beeston and Aaron Paris-Stickland. It was Jon who scored two of the three tries, both times breaking out of the huddled mass of players and dashing towards the try line. Ben Eden made a terrific run near the end of the second half, scoring Yarlet's third and final try.

Praise should go out to all players in this team, who worked very hard in a tough series of matches.

YARLET B TEAM

This was a match that really tested the boy's abilities, in their extended game against Terra Nova.
Jamie Betteley, a supportive and enthusiastic captain, helped his team to get into position throughout the game.

The first third was a fast-paced series of tries from both sides, with Oliver Heath scoring two, both times by making a dash down the middle when a space was created for him, and Victor Camara-Ruiz scoring a try by a clear run through the gaps in Terra Nova's team. The second third was a more evenly matched period of play, with both teams, having scoped the opposition, playing more tactfully. Oliver Heath scored a third try, and Jamie Betteley scored his first after winning the scrum and making a breakthrough for the try line. The third and final game saw Oliver Heath and Victor Camara-Ruiz using their height and sprinting skills to their ability, as they both successfully won the ball and made a fast-paced sprint for the goal-line, Oliver's from the half-way mark! The final score was 11-7 to Terra Nova.

All players worked hard and supported their team well, with aid from Jamie Cartwright, Romi Peck, Joseph Thorpe and Alan McNulty.
