U9'S CRICKET MATCH V'S ST ANSELM'S

Optimized-U9 St Anselms cricket COMPRESSEDYarlet under 9's arrived at St. Anselm's on a glorious spring day still smarting from a heavy rugby defeat several months earlier. With St Anselm's reputation as an excellent cricketing school also at the forefront of their minds, Yarlet had a tough task ahead of them which required everyone to put in maximum effort.

Yarlet batted first with Fraser Dimberline and Ethan Squire putting on an amazing 39 runs in just four overs. Oliver and William Connell continued in the same vein scoring numerous boundaries and by the end of the 8th over, Yarlet had plundered an incredible 87 runs off the demoralised St Anselm's bowling attack.

Henry Shaw and Jack Allbut scored 30 between them off their 4 overs including a huge six over square-leg from Henry and finally Luke Jones and Theo Hargreaves pushed the final total to an amazing 132.

Yarlet had batted superbly as a team and had left St Anselm's a mammoth total to chase.

Fraser and Theo opened the bowling attack for Yarlet with Fraser bowling an excellent maiden over. Henry Shaw then took a fantastic caught and bowled wicket and Luke also removed the stumps of a St Anselm's batsman. At the halfway point St Anselm's had been restricted to just 33 runs due to the accurate bowling and energetic fielding of Yarlet.

In the 11th over, Ethan Squire produced a devastating spell of bowling where he clean bowled two batsmen with unplayable consecutive deliveries putting him on a hat-trick. His hat-trick ball again was too good for the batsman, but unfortunately it just missed leg stump which meant he had finished his spell by taking a total of 3 wickets for just 8 runs and a man-of-the-match performance.

St Anselm's scored just 59 for the loss of 7 wickets and Yarlet recorded a victory by a massive 63 runs.

This was a superb all-round cricketing display by everyone in the team and we can improve much further yet I am sure with the great attitude shown by everyone. Very well done lads!
