A BRILLIANT ROUNDERS BATTLE RESULTS IN VICTORY FOR OUR U12S

U12 Rounders 24 May 2017

We sent out a myriad team of ages and abilities to face old rivals Birchfield on a gloriously sunny day. With Jess as Captain, the team were on the pitch and warming-up before the other players had even arrived. When the match began, it was clear we were at a disadvantage; the other team had a mixture of very powerful Form Seven and Eight girls, whilst we had a mixture of Sevens, Sixes and Fours. With two injuries in the first few minutes of the game, it was clear our odds of winning were tight.

Despite this, our girls pulled a draw out of the bag in the first innings at 6-6. Grace was like Thor, swinging her mighty bat and causing the opponents to scramble about the field, whilst Harriet pulled out all the stops to dash like lightning around the bases. Plucky Katie and high-hitting Emily proved to be valuable assets to the team, and Louiza's last few hits were
truly incredible.

It was the second half where the girls really came to life. Faced with a mammoth task of beating a high score set by our rivals, Jess swiftly managed her team in order to maximise runs and half runs. Kirstie and Evi were amazing at fielding and backstop respectively, and the passion and energy that flowed through the team in the second innings was inspirational. The catching and
passing was controlled, swift and stumped many an opponent out.

The girls clinched a very tight victory with 11.5 to 11. The umpire was amazed and delighted at the tremendous effort our girls displayed, and the expert manner in which they conducted themselves. They really were true models of a Yarlet pupil on the field that day. This was a game that really highlighted the impressive teamwork and sports(woman)ship of our U13 girls; they showed enthusiasm, professionalism, compassion and still retained their excited, happy nature. I was so proud and delighted with them all!
