AN EXCITING SHREWSBURY SIXES TOURNAMENT FOR OUR U11 & U13 FOOTBALL TEAMS

Shrewsbury Sixes Sept 2017

Yarlet U11 gave a good account of themselves. They were particularly well organised defensively despite never having played a tournament together before. For many in the team, this was their first competitive tournament. In our shield quarter finals match against Old Hall we shared equal possession, but we were unable to convert our scoring opportunities into goals. In the second half, Henry scored a sumptuous goal from a cunning assist from Elwin. Despite putting the opposing side under sustained periods of pressure during the second period of the match, luck was not in our favour and we ended losing by 3-1. Yarlet demonstrated magnificent endeavour and played without substitutes for the whole duration of the tournament. They played with great spirit and made us proud! Well done boys!
The U13s boys were in Group D which consisted of three other schools. Our first match was very mixed: during the first half Yarlet went 1-0 up however Oswestry fought back and scored 2 goals within the remaining time of the match. With this in mind the boys were not ready to give in! Second game was against Aldwickbury, this was very even with a final score of 1-1, however the boys did not make it easy keeping the ball in the opponent's half for the majority of the game. Our final match against Prestfelde B was also even with some cracking saves from Jamie in goal and running down the wings from Ben and Charlie. The final score stayed at 1-1.
The boys had qualified for the Shield game and were up against Terra Nova. This was the most frustrating game for Yarlet's U13 and spectators! There were strikes from Jon and Sam, but the score wouldn't increase and despite moving the ball on tired and injured bodies the boys still persevered.
Unfortunately it was to be for the U13s at Shrewsbury 6s being knocked out on sudden death penalities, however the team didn't once give up on the pitch.
