U9 NARROW VICTORY AGAINST STAFFORD PREP!

U9 Football 18 Oct

Today's match redefined the word "nail-biter" as our U9 boys took to the field against Stafford Prep, a large team of mainly Form 4 boys.
Facing up against them were our mixed ability team of Form 3 and Form 4, captained by the cool, collected William.
As the whistle blew, our boys were uncertain, and with some coaxing, finally started to push forwards and take real possession of the ball, with Oliver scoring the first goal of the game within minutes. Stafford Prep soon equalled the score.
As the second part of the game commenced, Yarlet were much more confident, and soon Oscar stormed into the opponent's half, scoring a second goal. Again, Stafford Prep seized the opportunity to level the score. By the second whistle the game was 3-3, thanks to a nifty goal from Robbie. Special mention should go to our new players this game, who really shone both in defence and supporting the strikers; Myles, Brady, Harvey and Elliot were brilliant!
Back to the game, and with one minute on the clock it was looking like a rather disappointing draw. Both teams gave as good as they got. Aidan was fantastic in goal, saving potential goals that could have spelt defeat for our hard working lads.
The coach signalled for the last 10 seconds of the game. The crowd was swelling, filled with players from finished matches and games lessons, eagerly awaiting some sort of miracle. And it came!
Oscar, seeing a gap in Stafford's wall-like defence, shot forwards, taking their team by surprise, and rushed like a bullet-train towards the opponent's goal.
With a lovely arched kick that sent the ball sailing, the crowd hushed for a split second as the ball flew past the goalkeeper. Then, an eruption of cheers for Oscar, for Yarlet, for the Game!
4-3 to Yarlet in the last few seconds, this match was the stuff of legend. Well done boys!
