U11 & U10S IN TOUGH FOOTBALL MATCHES V SHREWSBURY

U11 and U10 Football 29 November

Yarlet U11 vs Shrewsbury U11

Fresh from their two previous performances, Yarlet U11 went into this fixture full of confidence and made a very promising start in front of the home crowd. However, they paid the price for giving the skillful opposition time and space and very quickly found themselves three goals down. They impressively fought back, with Henry and Zak linking well to create a good chance and the visitors finally started to put the host under pressure. Morgan and Freddie were working extremely hard to contain the attacking threat of Shrewsbury but, unfortunately, Yarlet conceded four more goals before the end of a frantic first half.
With some slight re-shuffling at half time, Yarlet started the second half superbly and immediately started to create a number of good chances. Henry nearly scored and minutes later, following a fine flowing move, Zak came even closer to scoring and getting the visitors back in the game. Minutes later, Henry forced a great save from Shrewsbury's keeper. It was clearly not going to be their day, but their second half performance was superb and they should be extremely proud of their effort and resilience.

Yarlet U10 v Shrewsbury High Prep

Today the U10's, headed by Captain Elliot, faced off in the mud against Shrewsbury High. They were a very talented team and presented an immediate problem to our boys; their techniques were well rehearsed and during the first half of the match the opponents were able to run around us consistently, scoring goals by lurking in the box and waiting for the right opportunity to strike. By the end of the first half the score was 4-0. With a quick Goalkeeper change from Max to Will B, the second half was stronger, but Shrewsbury were able to score yet another four goals, including a reluctantly impressive header, bringing the final score to 8-0.

All players worked hard, with notable footballers including Will H, Robbie H and Reuben, who charged up and down to field to both defend and attack remarkably.

Unfortunately the boys returned to school with heavy hearts and caked in mud, but learnt a valuable lesson in positioning and communication skills. Better luck next time lads!
