POETRY RECITING COMPETITION

Poetry Reciting 2016

The past few weeks have seen pupils choosing, learning and practising poems for the annual reciting competition. The finals are divided into two sections: Seniors (Forms 7 and 8) and Juniors (Forms 3 to 6).

There were an impressive 24 competitors in this year's Junior Final and it was hard for the judges (the staff) to reach a decision.  It was very close, but after adding up the marks the result was:

1st    HARRIET BANE

2nd    FREYA LLOYD

3rd    ALFIE FARRINGTON

4th    JEMIMA BULLOCK

5th    HENRY SHAW

6th    JAKE PARKER

Harriet recited "The Three Little Pigs" by Roald Dahl, a long, humorous poem which she handled with great skill.

The Senior Final was also close:

1st    SEAN O'REILLY

2nd   EMILY CORNES

3rd    MAICEE RIDGE

This was the first time Sean had reached the final, and he fully deserved his victory with a precise, powerful rendition of a war poem, "How to Kill" by Keith Douglas.
