This was an exciting seven-a-side tournament played on a crisp sunny autumn afternoon.
We were without our captain, Jacob Raine, due to injury, but he was there to give support from the touchline.
Our first match was against Beech Hall, and Harrison Hardy-Smith put us ahead with a fine goal after ten seconds! It was a sign of things to come. Sean O’Reilly also scored and Gabriel Korylco-Bowers grabbed four, so we won 6 – 0.
Against Kingsmead we were a little too self-confident initially, but we got our act together and ran out 4 – 0 winners.
The final match was against our hosts, The Ryleys, who had also won both previous matches, and Harry Cartwright had to make his first (and only) save of the afternoon. We won 2 – 0 and were clearly the outstanding team of the tournament. Imagine if Jacob Raine had been playing! As it was we kept three clean sheets and scored twelve goals in thirty minutes’ football. Not bad.
For the record, Hardy-Smith scored 2 goals, O’Reilly 3, and Korylco-Bowers 7.
This season the U13’s have played 7 matches and won all 7. There are three more to come.
