Yarlet School | A resounding success for the U13 Rugby team

A resounding success for the U13 Rugby team

Yesterday the 1st team welcomed Birchfield to Yarlet for their second fixture of the season and what a truly outstanding display from all the boys.

Yarlet managed to get straight on the front foot by taking the kick off, setting up a ruck and then Gabe Korylco-Bowers cantered over after a superb solo run, and converted his own try. However from this Birchfield responded with a converted try of their own. Yarlet responded immediately to this by scoring another converted try, only for Birchfield to do the same; after ten minutes the game was evenly balanced at 14-14.

From here on in Yarlet began to take control of the fixture. With a further 3 tries from Gabe Korylco-Bowers Yarlet headed into the half time break 35-14 up.

Knowing that Birchfield would continue to fight Yarlet knew they had to score first in the second half to put the fixture to bed, which we duly did through Jacob Raine.

Yarlet continued to make the pressure tell; through some superb handling and interplay through the backs and the forwards Yarlet scored two more tries through Gabe Korylco-Bowers (completing his double hat-trick) and Harry Raybould. This gave Yarlet a dominate 56-14 lead, but Birchfield continued to fight and managed to get over for two more tries themselves making the final score 56-26.

This was a very accomplished Yarlet performance where all the boys on the pitch contributed, Harrison Hardy-Smith set up 5 of Gabe Korylco-Bowers 6 tries and Jacob Raine put in a flawless kickling display to land all seven of his conversion attempts, including two from the touchlines. Captain Will Thowless-Reeves led from the front superbly, combining with Will Warwick to disrupt Birchfield ball and Oliver Butters-Peers, Oscar Mitchell and Joe Rogers contributed superbly in attack and were rocks in defence.

A truly outstanding display from all the boys on the field and a resounding success.

Well done boys!
