A welcome opportunity for Mr Ray to dust off his Great Gatsbyesque two-tone brogues and umpire a match at the highest level!
Electing to bat first, Gabe (42) and William W (19) set the early pace before conspiring to get themselves out with poor strokeplay, allowing others a piece of the action. Unfortunately, our run rate slowed significantly and we closed on 107 for 3, which looked eminently gettable by an apparently powerful Grace Dieu batting lineup. Clearly they had not factored the mighty Gabe into their calculations, however, as he skittled four of their most proficient players out - all clean bowled - for a meagre 7 runs, setting us for a comfortable win. Although the tail wagged briefly and somewhat limply until the death, the support bowlers saw Yarlet home with four overs to spare, completing an ultimately comprehensive victory. Of course, a win is a win, but the boys should expect a far sterner test next week away at fortress Terra Nova. Finally, may I take this opportunity to thank parents who attended in support; it really makes a difference to these occasions, and is much appreciated.
