A solid performance from the Yarlet U11 girls yesterday in their hockey matches against The Ryley’s and Terra Nova.
We put on a fine display against both teams but, on a large pitch with only one sub, the girls soon tired. Passing the ball around well, the girls made the most of a short corner early in the match against The Ryley’s. Showing a good level of skill, our defenders kept the score line that way for the duration of the match. We won the first game 1-0.
Our second game was against the well-rested home team. We tried our best but soon tired. Jemima Bullock worked hard up and down the pitch, showing her excellent attitude and desire to win. Jessica Hood put on a good display of skills in the midfield, supported by Grace D, Kirstie, Jessica C and Harriet but were unlucky not to finish with a goal. Danielle showed her increasing confidence by making some strong tackles and Evi was powerful in defence, kicking the ball away whenever possible! We lost this game 2-0 but have learnt that we need to track back and defend when we don’t have the ball, no matter how tired we are!
