We braced ourselves in difficult conditions on Saturday morning for the U11 hockey tournament at Denstone College.
We won the first two games against Terra Nova and Moreton Hall, showing our outstanding spacing on the pitch and working well as a team. Our next game was against the team from Fairfield. They were well drilled and their scary teachers put us off a bit. We let our heads go down as tiredness got the better of us and lost that game. Without a break we had to go on against Grace Dieu. We would have normally beaten this team but as we were the only ones not to have had a rest so far, we were just too exhausted to work back in defence when we lost the ball and unfortunately lost 1-0, finishing 3rd in our group. We went into the 3rd place play offs against Birchfield. It was a well matched game with both teams having some strong attacking players. Our defence was tired and quickly let 2 goals in. Luckily Jess Hood made an outstanding hit from a short corner meaning it was 2-1. Our heads lifted slightly but soon fell again when Birchfield got another. We worked really hard throughout the day but, without enough breaks, and in torrential rain, we struggled; finishing 6th overall out of 12 teams. A good effort girls, you should all be very proud of your performances!
