Last Wednesday, Yarlet U12 Girls' Hockey team played their first match of the year on one of the hottest days in September. Yarlet had got the first centre. They used this to their advantage and went straight into their half led by Kirstie Shiner, team captain. Yarlet spent most of the first 20 minutes in Terra Nova's half with some lovely passing and teamwork between the forwards Grace Darby, Harriet Bane and Alice Beardmore. This superb possession led to 3 goals scored in the first half by Alice and Kirstie, who scored 2!
After a quick team talk and cool down at half-time the team were determined to maintain the same pressure and possession but some of Terra Nova's passes got through our midfielders into Yarlet's half, however Tilly Capewell, Danielle Rotchell and Sophie Beech were not letting any hockey balls past their sticks and onto their goalkeeper, Jessica Cartmail. The pressure was certainly on when Purdy Oliver and Evi Rogers made a rapid run for the goal with some excellent control and passing between the two, with Kirsty finding the goal for her hat trick. The final score was 5-0 to Yarlet thanks to Sophie scoring in the last few minutes of the second half.
The U12s demonstrated outstanding teamwork and communication, especially from their defenders Ella Nash and Ellen Clark. Well done girls what an excellent way to start the year!
